Trump Administration Plans to Open Almost 20 Million Acres to Drilling Off Florida

Along the Gulf Coast from Pensacola to the Everglades, Florida’s white sand beaches and blue-green waters are part of the iconic Florida experience, cherished by millions of residents and visitors. Yet the Federal government is proposing an aggressive expansion of offshore drilling that would bring rigs  closer to Florida than ever before, threatening the state’s coastal economy and way of life.

The new Five Year Plan opens 19.98 million acres of Florida waters to drilling. This is about the size of South Carolina (20.49 million acres) and a little less than half the size of Florida (42.08 million acres).

The Administration has already announced its plans to open 80 million acres of oil and gas leases in the Gulf of Mexico through lease sales scheduled for December 10th. Healthy Gulf is challenging these sales through a lawsuit with other conservation organizations.

Bringing offshore drilling any closer to Florida is a direct threat to Florida’s beaches and coastal economy, and our position is clear: Not one inch closer.

Join with thousands on the Gulf coast and across the nation telling Congress and the Federal government to back off on offshore drilling and protect Florida’s coast.

Take action now to protect Florida from offshore drilling.
