Sunshine Brings Cars To the Beach

23,027 cars came to Pensacola Beach on Saturday, March 7. The report was issued by Ty Jones, Toll Bridge Specialist for the Bob Sikes Toll Plaza as part of the Escambia County Engineering Traffic & Transportation Department.

It’s expected. The first warm and sunny days of March have day visitors and tourists flocking to Pensacola Beach. February had some busy days, too.

Andrea Gibson, Escambia County Public Information Officer, confirmed, “Saturday, Feb. 28 is the first date this year with over 20,000 cars traveling through the Bob Sikes Toll Plaza, with a total of 20,019.”

For comparison, 22,505 cars traveled through the Bob Sikes Toll Facility on March 1, 2025.

The Toll Facility and surrounding area is currently undergoing construction as part of the Pensacola Beach Gateway Project. The project which includes erecting a toll gantry across the road and demolishing the current Bob Sikes Toll Facility is estimated to conclude by July 1.
