Publisher’s Picks…bonanza of beach events

September on Pensacola Beach is a combination of perfect weather and special events. Check these out:

• Vettes At The Beach, hosted September 20 at Casino Beach parking lot near the Beach Ball. This is the twenty-second year for the Miracle Strip Corvette Club’s show which attracts 200 Corvettes from all over the southeast U.S. Cars start rolling in as early as 7 a.m. The show opens to spectators from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The awards ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. The Santa Rosa Kids’ House and Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Florida benefit from proceeds.

• Mere Mortals Members Only Triathlon, Sunday, September 21 at 7 a.m. You can’t join them but you can cheer for them. Drivers should note Via de Luna and Casino Beach areas will be impacted.

• Pensacola Beach Brawl crossfit contest, Friday-Sunday, September 26-28. Individuals and teams compete in a variety of grueling physical tests. Elite athletes will compete on Friday starting at 10:30 a.m. All Individual athletes compete on Saturday. Their first workout starts at 8:30 a.m. and the final workout starts at 3 p.m. Teams of 4 will compete on Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m. Awards follow immediately. at the end of each day. There is no charge for spectators.

• National Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 27. To celebrate, all entrance fees are waived. It’s fee free to enter Gulf Islands National Seashore including the Fort Pickens Area.

• Fort Pickens is hosting a Let’s Go Fishing! Clinic, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. This demonstration, drop-in style event is free. Experience shore fishing at Gulf Islands National Seashore. Stop in to learn about knot tying, casting, and fishing responsibly. Meet at the Fort Pickens Fishing Pier. Fishing equipment and gear are provided on a first come, first served basis. No registration required. Note: This activity takes place on a soft, sandy beach near open water. Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended.

• Celebration 4444 Education charity poker tournament, Saturday, September 27, 1 p.m. at Paradise Bar and Grill. The event, in its nineteenth year, is hosted by Texas Hold ‘Em 4444 Fun to support the Pensacola Beach Elementary School’s music department. A $20 donation is requested. Prizes are given for the first person to lose all their chips, and a special custom award is give to the champion. Other prizes are awarded to the finalists. Players of all ages and abilities are welcome to join. It’s 4444 fun!

• CEO Soak to benefit ALS, Tuesday, September 30, 6 p.m. in the sandy area adjacent to the Gulfside Pavilion at Casino Beach. The event, organized and hosted by Jeff Elbert is to honor his father, Jim Elbert and raise awareness and funds to fight this terrible disease. Jim Elbert, a longtime Pensacola Beach resident, passed away in 2018.

CEOs, community leaders, clubs, Mardi Gras krewes and individuals who want to make a difference, raise funds. At the appointed time on Tuesday night, the Escambia County Fire Rescue firefighters from the Pensacola Beach Station 13 douse them with a firehose. They get soaked! There is no charge to watch the event. Donations are accepted.
