Pensacola’s Sister Cities Prepares to Celebrate the 250th

Pensacola’s Sister Cities International is ready to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a 2026 membership drive, their annual Galvez Essay Contest and a myriad of events in May.

Pensacola Beach Resident Nan Harper encourages citizens to join in their celebrations and support the Sister Cities organization. Pensacola’s Sister Cities are Miraflores, Perú; Chimbote, Perú;  Gero, Japan; Escazú, Costa Rica; Macharaviaya, Spain; Isla Mujeres, Mexico; and  Borobia/Soria, Spain.

Membership is $25 per year and donations are accepted for the Scholarship Fund.

The 2026 Events include:

  • Galvez Essay Contest, open to Escambia and Santa Rosa County fifth graders. Deadline to submit is April 6. Winner will read essay at Galvez ceremony.

  • Galvez Day ceremony, May 7 at the Galvez statue. Episcopal Day School students to perform.

  • Mayor Luncheon and Wreath Laying Ceremony aboard the Pensacola Bay Ferry

  • Sister Cities, Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, Pensacola Heritage Foundation Luncheon, May 8,  at the Pensacola Yacht Club

  • The Grand Gala, May 9, which includes participants in period costumes.

“Events will be held throughout the year honoring each of our sister cities,” said Harper. “Let’s plan for an active 2026!”
