Beach Renourish Delays Start - - Changes Work Location Order

The project schedule start date and location flow for the Pensacola Beach renourishment project have shifted into mid-to-late February. Once it starts, it will be a round-the-clock effort by Manson Construction to pump 1.5 million cubic yards of sand onto 8.1 miles of Gulf front beach. Officials estimate it will take about 3 months to complete. The start date is now anticipated during the week of February 16, but is subject to change due to weather and equipment. Some equipment is located in a roped off area at Park West. Pipeline landings #1 and #2 have been installed.

The first week crews will renourish the beach from Avenida 10 west to Pensacola Beach Resort, which includes Casino Beach. The week of February 23 will be behind Seashore Condos east to Pensacola Beach Resort; then Seahorse west to Park West. It’s anticipated that the week of March 9 the project will go from Avenida 10 east to Avenida 17.

The project moves to Avenida 23 on March 16 where it will renourish west to Avenida 17; then March 23 from Avenida 23 east to Portofino. The equipment will move to Dog Park East for final two stretches which are west to Portofino and east to Park East. The schedule shows an estimated end date the week of April 20.

Only the active project areas are closed off to beachgoers for safety reasons. Currently, the Dog Parks are open for use. The contractor will reopen each area as soon as it is safe to do so.

The $36 million project is funded by the Santa Rosa Island Authority, Escambia County through tourism development taxes, a Florida Department of Environmental Protection grant with the State of Florida providing matching funds.
